Located in Total Rehab at Flower Hospital, the Outpatient Lymphedema Treatment Center offers comprehensive treatment for lymphedema patients by specially trained therapists. Focusing on teaching the patient how to achieve and maintain control of lymphedema, the therapists use their knowledge and expertise to develop a home management program to fit individual needs. A treatment program typically lasts from 1 to1 ½ hours, 5 days a week, for 2-3 weeks and includes massage, specialized exercises, and instruction in the use and application of special bandages. The center also runs a bimonthly support group designed to keep patients informed on new treatments and to share helpful information on managing lymphedema.

To seek treatment at the center, your physician must first diagnose your condition and then write a referral for treatment. Medicare and many private insurance companies usually cover the cost of the evaluation and treatment under standard codes for insurance coverage.
