August 10, 2005 - Jobst Vascular Center is the leading enroller in the United States for a clinical research study of a new investigational drug called ETC-642. JVC has enrolled 28 patients in this Phase II study sponsored by Esperion Therapeutics, a division of Pfizer. ETC-642 is a synthetic compound of HDL, the “good” cholesterol, and is designed to remove plaque from the bloodstream. In previous studies of this drug, patients showed a significant reduction of plaque volume. In fact, popular press reports referred to the drug as “Liquid Drano for the arteries.” This study is under the direction of Anthony J. Comerota, Director of JVC. JVC is the leader among the 27 renowned research centers participating in this trial. Notable sites include the Medical University of Ohio, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Arizona Heart Institute.
