Educational Conferences

Attendance at the weekly vascular conferences is mandatory.  The intent is to encourage residents to both take from and contribute to conferences as full participants in a climate of academic inquiry that promotes evidence based practice and decision making.  Required conferences are Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical,  Endovascular Conference and Basic Science. Residents are required to attend a minimum of 70% of required conferences.

Vascular Journal Club meets every two months. This informal discussion focuses attention on current literature that exemplifies high quality content that can improve patient care as well as poor quality or flawed reports which warrant critical review. Selection of articles from approximately 27 journals in the Jobst Vascular Center library is made by residents in consultation with the program director using criteria that include:

Todd Miller, MD, 2004-6 vascular surgical resident, presents at the 2005 EVN conference.
  • A classic paper that was highly influential

  • A current report that has high level impact on practice and demonstrates excellent methodology

  • A current article that shows flawed methods, conclusions not supported by data or other elements that characterize poor quality
